‘모든 의뢰인을 VIP처럼’…경호의 품격을 한 단계 높이다 (주)국제경호기획 조인호 대표 < International Bodyguard Service> 지수인 기자 \| 2013:01:11 [10:48] ▲ 조인호 대표 (주)국제경호기획은 전문요원으로 구성된 경호업체로 대기업 비서실 경호를 비롯해 아동경호(통학)서비스, VIP 의전 경호(수행기사) 서비스, 여성경호서비스, 위치추적경호시스템, 신변보호 긴급 경호서비스 등을 제공한다. 입소문 까다로운 서울 강남에서 ‘믿고 맡길 수 있는 경호업체’라는 평판으로 주목받기 시작해 2011년 본사를 강남으로 이전, 유치권행사, 위협 및 협박 관련 법정동행 서비스, 증인참석 법정동행, 주주총회 진행 등 사업범위를 점차 넓히고 있다. “발로 뛰는 경호가 아니면 거짓말이다”라는 신념을 내세운 조인호 대표의 경영철학을 들어본다. 의뢰인의 신변보호 최우선 가치로 내세워 경호업체의 생명은 단연 의뢰인의 안전한 신변보호다. VIP 의전이나 아동 경호서비스를 비롯해 최근에는 증인참석을 위한 법정동행 등이나 주주총회 진행 등 서비스 분야가 넓어졌다. “법원에 증인으로 출석하는 일을 두려워하는 의뢰인들이 많아요. 법정 안에서도 가족이나 친구들이 찾아와 언성을 높이거나 싸움이 나곤 합니다.” 그는 의뢰인의 요구에 모자라서도, 넘쳐서도 안 되기 때문에 늘 ‘완급 조절’을 하는 것이 경호의 핵심이라고 말했다. 조인호 대표는 의뢰인들에게 본부장을 대동하지 않고는 절대 경호팀을 파견하지 않는다. 사소한 신변보호의 경우도 경호경험이 5년 이상인 베테랑을 파견한다. (주)국제경호기획이 3년 만에 서울 강남에서 입소문이 날 수 있었던 배경이다. “수많은 시행착오를 거쳐서 지역별로 특화된 경호 스타일을 만들게 됐습니다. 강남 지역의 경우 성폭력과 아동폭력 관련해서 경호 의뢰를 하는 경우가 많아요. 최근에는 방과 후 활동으로 아동경호 서비스 의뢰도 많아졌습니다.” 품위와 인격 갖춘 경호원 엄선해 파견 경호업계에서는 ‘신뢰’가 무척 중요하므로 모든 의뢰인에게 최선을 다해 경호 서비스를 할 수밖에 없다. 그만큼 업무 강도가 세고 한순간도 긴장을 늦출 수 없는 분야이기도 하다. 경호 서비스를 의뢰하는 이들 중 대다수가 사업가나 국회의원 등 사회적 지명도가 높은 이들이기 때문에 ‘경호원의 품위’를 지키는 것도 중요하다. “아무리 체격이 좋고 겉보기에 멋져도 경호원이 말이 많으면 신뢰를 얻을 수 없습니다. (주)국제경호기획에는 늦게까지 일을 한다고 투덜대거나 의뢰인을 불안하게 하는 경호원은 없습니다. 경호원이지만 품위를 갖추고 진중한 이들을 소수정예로 운영하고 있죠.” 태권도 4단, 경호 무술 3단, 합기도 3단의 화려한 실력을 자랑하는 조 대표는 초등학교 4학년 때부터 경호원을 꿈꿨다. 고향인 경기도 파주에 있는 학교 운동장에서 경호원을 난생처음 보고 동경했던 게 그 시작이었다. “어린 나이였지만 까만색 정장을 입은 경호원들에게 ‘경호원이 되려면 어떻게 해야 하느냐’고 물어봤어요. 그때 태권도를 배우고 있었는데 ‘공부를 열심히 하라’는 충고를 듣고 밤새서 시험공부를 했던 기억이 납니다(웃음). 평생 한우물을 파고 외길을 걸었더니 여기까지 온 것 같네요.” “발로 뛰는 경호가 아니면 거짓말이다” 현재 국제경호원 연맹 이사와 인천청년경호봉사단 부단장으로 일하고 있는 그는 각종 축제 등 행사 경호를 비롯해 유명 가수 콘서트 경호를 총괄하는 등 다양한 경험을 쌓았다. “발로 뛰는 경호가 아니면 거짓말이다”라는 신념으로 ‘현장우선주의’를 강조하며 경험과 실력으로써 의뢰인들에게 인정을 받았다. “직원들에게 항상 믿음을 주는 경호원이 되라고 강조합니다. (주)국제경호기획의 경영철학이기도 하고요. 신뢰를 중요시하기 때문에 한 번 의뢰를 맡긴 분들과 인연이 계속되고 있습니다. 2년 넘게 저희와 거래를 하는 분들이 계실 정도죠.” 현재 (주)국제경호기획은 서울 강남 본사와 인천 지사를 포함해 총 16명의 경호원이 근무 중이다. 업종의 특성상 경찰 업무와 중복되는 부분이 많다 보니 일이 호락호락하지만은 않다. 조인호 대표는 “그동안 수십여 건이 넘는 경호 건을 수행했지만 경찰과의 대립이 가장 힘들다”며 “경비법을 만들고 경호업체 허가를 내주며 제도적인 제재를 가하는 것은 불합리한 처사”라고 지적했다. 경호업체는 경찰서의 관할에 속하는데 경찰에서 총기나 장비를 정기적으로 점검하게 된다. 서류상으로 경호원들 교육을 확인받아야 하는 등 힘든 점이 많다. 의뢰인이 경호업체에 연락하면 경찰이 출동한 뒤 24시간이 지나야 경호를 해줄 수 있는 것도 제도적인 맹점이다. 조 대표는 “경찰과 대립을 하다가 경호업체에서 벌금을 맞는 경우도 빈번하다”고 전했다. “한 번은 아파트 주민회의에서 주주총회를 진행해달라며 경호원 파견을 요청했어요. 3명이 나갔는데 현장에 도착하자마자 멱살잡이가 시작되면서 싸움이 생긴 거예요. 알고 보니 아파트 내 관리단 측에서 경호원이 파견돼 맞붙어 싸워야 하는 상황이었던 거죠. 설상가상으로 배치신고를 한 지 24시간이 안 된 오후 5시에 파견이 되어서 경찰이 출동하면 법적으로 옴짝달싹 못하는 처지가 됐어요. 그 일이 있은 뒤로는 아무리 사소한 경호 의뢰라고 해도 사전 준비를 철저히 하는 습관이 생겼습니다.” 톰 크루즈, 배용준 참여하는 ‘나눔 바자회’ 경호업체로 선정 (주)국제경호기획은 2011년 회사가 인천에서 서울로 본사를 이전하면서 한층 더 품격 있는 경호서비스를 제공하는 업체로 발돋움했다. 현재는 서울 본사에 10명, 인천지사에 6명의 경호원이 근무하며 경호 프로젝트를 나눠서 수행 중이다. 조 대표는 “위기를 지혜롭게 극복해 본사를 이전한 것이 오히려 전화위복의 계기가 됐다”며 “현재는 강남에서 품격을 갖춘 경호서비스 전문 업체로 입소문이 나면서 성장을 거듭하고 있다”고 말했다. (주)국제경호기획의 경호 영역은 분야와 업종에 국한되지 않는다. 올해 4월 국내에서 개최될 예정인 아시아 대형 나눔프로젝트에서 (주)국제경호기획이 국내·외 유명 톱스타들의 전담 경호업체로 선정되면서 글로벌 경호 서비스회사로 도약하게 됐다. 이 행사는 미국 할리우드 배우인 톰 크루즈를 포함해 배우 소지섭, 배용준 등이 참여하는 국제적인 바자회가 될 전망이다. 조 대표는 “경호의 경중을 가리지 않고 의뢰인의 상황과 여건에 맞는 ‘맞춤형 경호 서비스’를 펼쳐나갈 계획”이라며 “(주)국제경호기획이 국내를 대표하는 글로벌 경호업체로 도약할 수 있도록 노력할 것”이라고 강조했다. 피해자 가족들에게 무료로 신변보호를 해주는 봉사활동을 비롯해 인천청년경호봉사단 부단장으로서 지역순찰에도 만전을 기하는 조인호 대표를 보며 경영을 넘어 ‘더불어 사는 삶’을 몸소 실천하는 신뢰와 열정의 에너지를 느낄 수 있었다. That is the secret behind it has gone viral in Gangnam in just 3 years after its establishment. After going through many trials and errors, it came to provide the customized service per each area. In Gangnam, customers ask for the service to prevent sexual abuse and child violence. Due to the increased extracurricular activities, the request for child guarding service has been increasing either. Dispatch a guard with dignity and personality Since trust is quite important in guarding business, it has tried to make its best effort to provide all clients with the equal service. Quite intense workload does not allow guards to loosen up just for a moment. Since the main clients are celebrities, it is important to maintain the dignity as a guard. "Even if a guard is well-built and enviable, he or she would fail to gain trust from clients if they are too talkative. Anyone in the company does not complain about intense workload or make clients unsettle. Our guards have always worked with dignity. Cho had dreamed of becoming a guard since he saw guards in black suit in the school playground when he was 4th grade at elementary school. "I was young. So I asked them how to become a guard. They advised me to study hard. So, I stayed up all night for study. As I have devoted myself to this field, I think Ive made through with this." Cho said. Emphasis on working in the filed Since he has long been involved in guarding, he has built up various experiences. The focus on working in the field get him trust from its clients. "Ive always been emphasizing on giving trust on our clients. That is our business philosophy as well. Ive been maintaining a relationship with some of my clients for more than 2 years." he said. Including the headquarters in Gangnam and Incheon branch, totally 16 guards are working. However, it has been not easy to run a business due to the confrontation with the police. "It is unreasonable to put a systematic restriction by enacting law on guarding business and giving a permission to it. Since guarding business is controlled by the local police, its gun and equipment are checked on a regular basis by the police. Moreover, the training on guards is checked by document. The systematic loophole is that it is allowed to providing the service 24 hours only after the police came to the scene. Due to the confrontation with the police, it is frequent to get fined. Several unsavory incidents had me pick up a new habit of thoroughly preparing in advance. Cho stressed out that he would continue to provide a customized guarding service according to the status and the condition of each client and try his best hard to promote the company.
